ICON Eyecare is Home to a Johns Hopkins Trained Uveitis Specialist!
Few eye care specialists are trained to treat uveitis. ICON Eyecare is proud to have such a specialist on its team. Dr. Ashley Sturdy is a fellowship trained specialist from the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University. She is uniquely qualified to treat even the most complex cases of uveitis.
Also called chorioretinitis, uveitis is an inflammation of the middle layer of the eye (uvea), causing eye redness, pain and blurred vision. Uveitis is rare, with fewer than 200,000 U.S. cases reported per year.
What are the Symptoms of Uveitis?
- Light sensitivity
- Blurred vision
- Dark floating spots in the field of vision
How is Uveitis Treated?
Uveitis can be serious, leading to permanent vision loss. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent the complications of uveitis. The common treatment is eye drops that ease the inflammation. If uveitis is a result of an infection, antibiotics or antiviral medication may be prescribed.
